Role of Private Contributions

Although the services and resources of the public library are provided free to all members of our community, they don’t come without a cost. The libraries rely upon public funding, paid through our taxes, to keep our libraries open and operational.

Unfortunately, in Shasta County, public library funding is about one-third of what the majority of libraries in the state spend and the Shasta Public Libraries currently have a collection about half the size it should be for our community. Therefore, our Libraries’ future depends upon a partnership of both public and private funding which is critical to ensure the spectrum of robust library resources and services our community needs, wants, and deserves.

Private gifts to the Endowment Fund will allow us to have the programs, books, materials and technology tools that will make our library flourish today and for generations to come.

The Shasta Library Foundation is actively working to enhance the public library as a community resource by funding special projects and by building an endowment that supplements the public support for the Shasta Public Libraries. Private gifts to the Endowment Fund allow our community to have the programs, books, materials and technology tools that will make our libraries flourish today and for generations to come.
